How Auto Accident Reconstruction Is Done

An auto accident construction, or also known as a vehicular accident reconstruction is a scientific method of investigation, analysis, and drawing of conclusions regarding the causes and occurrences during a vehicular collision. Scenario reconstructionists and forensic analyzers conduct thorough analyses of collision and then reconstruct the scenario to determine the grounds of collision and the factors that contributed in the incident, including the roles of the drivers and their vehicles involved, the roadway driven, and the environment surrounding the crash scenario.

Laws and principles working behind physics and engineering, like linear momentum, work-energy relations and kinematics are the bases behind these analyses, and can utilize computer software to compute useful data and figures. The accident reconstruction gives comprehensive analyses that a professional witness can present at a trial. Auto accident reconstructions are done during in cases where fatalities and injuries are involved. Data collated from accident reconstructions are proven to be useful in redesigning and developing newer and safer roads and highways, as well as improving the vehicular designs and safety mechanisms. Forensic professionals, law enforcement specialized units or private consultants conduct these reconstructions.

Data Collection Tools

In the year 1985, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States provided the first national guidelines for the training in the field of traffic accident reconstruction. Subsequently, an industry accreditation group, Accreditation Commission fro Traffic Accident Reconstruction, or ACTAR, was established. Hugh H. Hurt Jr. pioneered motorcycle accident research. His intensive accident reconstructions of vehicular accidents helped to give explanations on issues such as that safety helmets reduced cases of head injuries; that motorcyclists needed more training on driving to manage skidding; and vehicles turning towards left in front of the motorcycle is involved in a large number of motorcycle accidents.

Accident scene visitation and investigation of all vehicular collisions are involved in scenario inspections and data retrieval. Collection of evidences such as scene photographs and videos, physical measurements, testimonies of eye witnesses and legal depositions are some of the fundamental methods done in the investigation. Supplementary factors include steering angles, brake pressure and strength, light usage, turn signals, velocity, acceleration, engine, car control and anti-lock brakes. Witnesses are interviewed during the process of reconstruction, and material evidences such as skid marks are analyzed. The length of a tire mark can often provide data for calculation of the original speed of a vehicle, for instance. Vehicular velocity is often misjudged by a driver; therefore an individual estimation of speed is important in accidents. Road structure and surface is also crucial, especially when tire grip has been lost due to ice, mud, debris, or road obstacles. Data gathered by an even data recorder can also provide important information such as the speed of the vehicle a few seconds before the occurrence of the collision.

Analysis of auto vehicular accident reconstruction involves data collection and processing, evaluation of probabilities and possible hypotheses, model creation, recreation of scenarios, and software simulations. By the use of powerful but inexpensive computers and specialty software, accident reconstruction has been revolutionized like many other technical researches and analyses. Computer-aided design, or CAD software, vehicle specification database, momentum and kinematics computer programs, collision simulation software and photogrammetry programs are typical examples of the computer software used by accident reconstructionists.

Using the Exif tool on Linux to read / write Exif Tags to your photo collection.

Using the Exif tool on Linux to read / write Exif Tags to your photo collection. Video Clips. Duration : 4.85 Mins.

linuxbyexample.org In today's screen cast I am going to show you how to read and write Exif tags to and from your digital photographs. Exif is an acronym for EXchangeable Image File format, which is a standard for including metadata in certain types of files, particularly JPEG image files produced by your digital camera. This metadata can contain a lot of information like the make of your camera, but it also includes details about each photograph, like the exposure, shutter speed and whether the flash fired or not. I have two specific examples I want to show you today. First, lets say you forgot to change your cameras internal date and time before you went on holiday, all the pictures would be taken with the wrong time stamp, so I am going to demonstrate how you can quickly modify the date and time across all your photographs by entering a timezone offset. In the second example I am going to show you how to add a copyright notice to all your photographs. We are going to use the Exif tool developed by Phil Harvey, which is a platform independent Perl library coupled with a command line utility, which will read and write Exif tags for JPEG images. There will be a link to this web site in the show notes. The web site contains simple instructions on how to install the software under Linux, and once installed you can start adding and modifying Exif tags to your image collection. Here I have some photographs I took on a recent trip to France, which I am going to use for this ...

Hard Drive Failure - What Goes Wrong & Can You Rely on Data Recovery?

The hard disk drive in your computer is the place where the data is stored, and the data is at its most current. So, if it fails and there is not a current backup then it can be a very serious problem.

Why will a disk fail?

Data Collection Tools

Data on a hard drive is stored on a circular platter that spins at anything from 5400 rpm to 15,000 rpm., with a read/write head mounted on an arm that positions it across the platter to access data. This head "floats" very close to the surface by dint of an aerodynamic effect, add to this movement and proximity the potential for heat generation and there is suddenly a lot that can go wrong.

Head Crash

This is when the head touches the surface of the platter whilst it is spinning, this could be the result of an impact or a mechanical failure within the HDA (HDA is the Head Disk Assembly which comprises the head/platter combination).

It is not too difficult to imaging the consequence of such contact, in the worst cases it can strip away the entire recorded surface of the platter leaving just the base material, usually glass.

Media Failure

Hard disk drives "hide" any instance of media failure to maintain a perfectly readable disk, and prevent operating system problems as the result of unreadable sectors. What they do is maintain a set of spare sectors, and when failures occur they reallocate data to one of these spares.

There can come a point where the spares are all used up and the errors begin. Normally the disk is in quite a sever state of failure by now and if the disk is kept working the problems will rapidly multiply.

Electronic Failure

Hard drives are controlled by circuitry that is susceptible to damage from electrostatic discharge or electrical surge. If a component is on the brink of failing then quite a minor electrical "blip" will push it over the edge.

The complexity with a hard drive is that there is code and information stored within memory devices on the drive controller and this is created when the drive is first formatted, so just replacing the electronics will not help.

Alignment failure and head failure.

If any of the read heads within the drive fail, and can no longer turn the magnetic signal going past into something that can be decoded by the drive electronics then again the disk drive has failed. Even if the heads have not failed but mechanical wear means that positioning to the correct place to find data is just not happening, then you can have lots of perfectly well recorded data but not means of accessing it.

Bearing seizure

Platter rotation has to be nice and smooth, any undue vibration can cause positional problems. Following an impact, or just after prolonged use, the bearings that allow the platter to rotate can crumble and seize. The drive cannot spin the platter and no data can be read.

Data Failures

Sometimes the problem lies not with the disk but with the person or system that is using it. The disappearance of a partition or files might actually be user error or the result of an application error, the disk might still be working perfectly well.

Hard Drive Data Recovery

This is the general term for a collection of techniques for getting the data of a failed device and finding a way of returning it in a usable form. This can range from quite a straightforward process, to a highly complex on, and in the worst case an impossible task.

It is tempting to depend on the general reliability combined with a belief that in the unlikely event of a failure a data recovery professional can help. Many firms cite 95% + success rates so why worry? First, the only statistic that matters is whether your disk can be recovered from, 500 other disks might have been recovered from 100%, but if yours has crashed beyond redemption then your data has gone.

Second, even a low cost data recovery will cost more than a 500GB USB disk, so why risk everything to save virtually nothing?

Hard Drive Data Recovery is an option, sometimes a business or marriage saver, but by taking a bit of care it can be an option that you do not need.

Computer Forensics Tools

In general, a computer forensic investigator will use a tool in order to gather data from a system (e.g. a computer or computer network) without altering the data on that system. This aspect of an investigation, the care taken to avoid altering the original data, is a fundamental principle of computer forensic examination and some of the tools available include functionality specifically designed to uphold this principle. In reality it is not always easy to gather data without altering the system in some way (even the act of shutting a computer down in order to transport it will most likely cause changes to the data on that system) but an experienced investigator will always strive to protect the integrity of the original data whenever possible. In order to do this, many computer forensic examinations involve the making of an exact copy of all the data on a disk. This copy is called an image and the process of making an image is often referred to as imaging. It is this image which is usually the subject of subsequent examination.

Another key concept is that deleted data, or parts thereof, may be recoverable. Generally speaking, when data is deleted it is not physically wiped from the system but rather only a reference to the location of the data (on a hard disk or other medium) is removed. Thus the data may still be present but the operating system of the computer no longer "knows" about it. By imaging and examining all of the data on a disk, rather than just the parts known to the operating system, it may be possible to recover data which has been accidentally or purposefully deleted.

Data Collection Tools

Although most real world tools are designed to carry out a specific task (the hammer to hammer nails, the screwdriver to turn a screw, etc.) some tools are designed to be multi-functional. Similarly some computer forensic tools are designed with only one purpose in mind whereas others may offer a whole range of functionality. The unique nature of every investigation will determine which tool from the investigator's toolkit is the most appropriate for the task in hand.

As well as differing in functionality and complexity, computer forensic tools also differ in cost. Some of the market-leading commercial products cost thousands of dollars while other tools are completely free. Again, the nature of the forensic examination and the goal of the investigation will determine the most appropriate tools to be used.

The collection of tools available to the investigator continues to expand and many tools are regularly updated by their developers to enable them to work with the latest technologies. Furthermore, some tools provide similar functionality but a different user interface, whereas others are unique in the information they provide to the examiner. Against this background it is the task of the computer forensic examiner to judge which tools are the most appropriate for an investigation, bearing in mind the nature of the evidence which needs to be collected and the fact that it may at some stage be presented to a court of law. Without doubt, the growing number of both civil and criminal cases where computer forensic tools play a significant role makes this a fascinating field for all those involved.

Importance Of Data Mining In Today's Business World

What is Data Mining? Well, it can be defined as the process of getting hidden information from the piles of databases for analysis purposes. Data Mining is also known as Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD). It is nothing but extraction of data from large databases for some specialized work.

Data Mining is largely used in several applications such as understanding consumer research marketing, product analysis, demand and supply analysis, e-commerce, investment trend in stocks & real estates, telecommunications and so on. Data Mining is based on mathematical algorithm and analytical skills to drive the desired results from the huge database collection.

Data Collection Tools

Data Mining has great importance in today's highly competitive business environment. A new concept of Business Intelligence data mining has evolved now, which is widely used by leading corporate houses to stay ahead of their competitors. Business Intelligence (BI) can help in providing latest information and used for competition analysis, market research, economical trends, consume behavior, industry research, geographical information analysis and so on. Business Intelligence Data Mining helps in decision-making.

Data Mining applications are widely used in direct marketing, health industry, e-commerce, customer relationship management (CRM), FMCG industry, telecommunication industry and financial sector. Data mining is available in various forms like text mining, web mining, audio & video data mining, pictorial data mining, relational databases, and social networks data mining.

Data mining, however, is a crucial process and requires lots of time and patience in collecting desired data due to complexity and of the databases. This could also be possible that you need to look for help from outsourcing companies. These outsourcing companies are specialized in extracting or mining the data, filtering it and then keeping them in order for analysis. Data Mining has been used in different context but is being commonly used for business and organizational needs for analytical purposes

Usually data mining requires lots of manual job such as collecting information, assessing data, using internet to look for more details etc. The second option is to make software that will scan the internet to find relevant details and information. Software option could be the best for data mining as this will save tremendous amount of time and labor. Some of the popular data mining software programs available are Connexor Machines, Free Text Software Technologies, Megaputer Text Analyst, SAS Text Miner, LexiQuest, WordStat, Lextek Profiling Engine.

However, this could be possible that you won't get appropriate software which will be suitable for your work or finding the suitable programmer would also be difficult or they may charge hefty amount for their services. Even if you are using the best software, you will still need human help in completion of projects. In that case, outsourcing data mining job will be advisable.

Inside the Interface: Optimizing Search with Mathematica

Inside the Interface: Optimizing Search with Mathematica Tube. Duration : 3.60 Mins.

As a research analyst at BondDesk Group LLC, Joel Drouillard analyzes the way clients use the company's platform to search for fixed income securities. Recently, he started using Mathematica to go even deeper inside the interface to break down certain properties of searches. Using DatabaseLink, an industrial-strength Mathematica application that allows convenient integration of Mathematica with database management systems, Drouillard can easily retrieve all of BondDesk's click data. Once the data is in Mathematica, he can use the system's large collection of functions for numerical and symbolic computation and data processing to analyze and visualize clients' search behavior. Drouillard says, "I derive an immense amount of benefit from the tools Mathematica offers for mounting structures onto data. Visually, it's a big step forward, too." Drouillard says that with Mathematica's integrated approach to data handling, he can get a clearer picture of search activity on the company's interface and focus more on answering questions and optimizing the system. "One of the biggest advantages that I've derived from switching to Mathematica is its ability to operate in a vector sense or on a set sense rather than having to loop through everything. That's going to be relatively breakthrough in terms of my ability to now answer questions in a matter of minutes as opposed to...hours or days." Data Collection is a Crucial Part of ABA Therapy

When looking at the various aspects of ABA therapy, it is easy to focus on such things as discrete trial teaching, repetition, or reinforcement. There is no doubt that these elements of the treatment are absolutely imperative. With that said, however, it is important for parents and educators to understand that even the best repetition and trials will be hindered without rigorous and proper data collection. ABA is an evidence based method of teaching, and the collection of data is absolutely essential.

Data collection helps ABA therapists accurately measure performance throughout the teaching process. Not only does it provide them with a deeper understanding of how the child progresses, but it enables them to monitor any setbacks or to identify any changes in environment or stimuli that led to different responses. It also helps parents and educators come up with behavior plans and to make adjustments to the curriculum as needed. The diagnostic information provided on data sheets should always be as detailed and accurate as possible, and schools and parents should work together to share and compare these sheets on a regular basis.

Data Collection Tools

There are a number of different types of data collection that help make ABA therapy more effective. Monitoring progress and setbacks is important, but it is equally important to make specific notes about reinforcement offered, prompts used to garner specific responses, and reactions to different stimuli and circumstances. It is also important to collect data on skill acquisition as well as on any improvements or changes noticed in any aspect of the therapy. This can help educators to understand exactly what is working and what is not and can even help to make clear what areas the child experiences the most difficulty in.

Data collection is as important to the student as it is for the educator. While parents and teachers collect data to help themselves understand what is working, the data is used to create a better learning environment for the student. ABA is always most effective when offered intensively at both home and school, and data collection makes it much easier for parents and educators to create matching lessons and trials and to compare data from different environments. Providing these students with the best learning opportunities possible is crucial, and this means creating trials that are as identical as possible. ABA can be very effective, and data collection can help ensure that you give your child the best opportunities possible.

Statistical Analysis

Statistical analysis is normally referred to as a collection of methods that are used in processing large amount of information or data and also report the overall trends. Therefore, it is mainly useful when dealing with specific data. It provides different ways of reporting on how unusual event is actually based on certain historical data. For instance, our server normally uses different statistical analysis in order to examine tremendous amount of data that is produced everyday by stock market. Therefore, people prefer statistical analysis to other traditional forms of the technical analysis.

There are two different types of statistical analysis this include: descriptive and inferential statistics. Therefore, the major goal of this paper is to differentiate between two main types. To start with, descriptive statistics usually corresponds to the act of defining different characteristics of a given statistical measurement. Hence, it is based upon the methods and mechanisms that are employed to summarize and organize any raw data. So as to categorize that data from the random sample collected, many statisticians uses charts, tables, graphs and standard measurements like measurements of variation, average and percentiles.

Data Collection Tools

There are many ways in which this type of statistic has been used for instance, in baseball. Statisticians spend a lot of effort and also time examining and summarizing data they usually get from the game. For instance in 1948, over six hundred games were played in the league of America. Therefore, so as to determine which team that had best batting average, a lot of effort was required. This is because they were required to take official scores for every game, make a list of each batter, then compute all the results of each, add total number of the hits made and also total number of different times at bat so as to calculate with the batting average. This proved to be a lot of work and more complicated.

Nevertheless, due to technology this has changed a lot. This is because the use of various computer statistical programs together with capability of incorporating statistical functions on the spreadsheet programs like excel shows that more detailed and complicated information can actually be collected, formatted and also presented with just a couple of key strokes. As result all these has made many statisticians to handle a lot of data and explore it in a systematic way with a short duration.

The second type is inferential statistics. It is mostly based upon measuring and choosing trustworthiness of the conclusion about certain population parameter that is based on information from random sample which is the reduced portion of the same population. One good example where inferential statistic applied is the political predictions. For instance, you find that in order to predict who will actually be the winner in an election like presidential election, sample of few thousand who are carefully chosen are asked whom they are going to vote.

Therefore, from the answers they end up giving, statisticians are able to infer or predict who will be voted in. Without doubt, the primary elements in this type are choosing general population that will be polled and the questions that they will be asked. Hence, inferential statistics highly relies on the results. Therefore it is easier to predict who will win the election. On the other hand, the sampling may sometimes give rise to inferences that are incorrect. Therefore many statisticians have tried to look for other ways of collecting data.

In conclusion, these two types are quite important in data collection. However, many people prefer using descriptive to inferential statistics this is because its results are more accurate.

Tips For Collecting Data During Home ABA Therapy

For parents conducting intensive ABA or Applied Behavior Analysis therapy at home, collecting and tracking data can seem like a daunting task.  Some parents feel that they need to keep rigorous data in regards to every question to a degree that it hampers their ability to teach effectively, while some parents feel that they can rely on memory to track their child's progress and note both impairments and improvements.  The truth is that data collection is a delicate balance between ensuring that progress is properly noted without getting so wrapped up in details that the lesson suffers.  What follows are some basic tips for collecting data.

It should first be noted that parents are encouraged to use data collection sheets.  Professionally designed to offer task analysis as well as the creation of easy to read graphs, data collection sheets simplify analyzing your child's progress with ABA therapy.  For parents who opt to create their own data records, however, there are some tips to simplify and streamline the process.  It is recommended to record data for separate sections and skills on separate sheets of paper and to document results only at the end of the lesson.

One tip many parents find helpful is to take a task such as getting dressed and break it down into smaller sections, such as choosing clothes, putting on underwear, putting on pants, putting on shirt, putting on sock, putting on shoes, putting pajamas in hamper, etc.  When each step is outlined, it becomes easy to outline which steps were taken without prompt and which required prompting.  This helps to outline trends and areas that need more work.  The same theory can apply for any activity, including things such as shape or color recognition, with notes being taken of shapes or colors recognized alone and those requiring a hint or prompt.  It is important to count only the child's first response and to be truthful in your data recording, as counting partial answers can skew data and harm your progress in the long run.

In short, data collection can be a relatively simple process even though it is highly important.  While professional collection sheets are recommended, many parents find success using their own data collection methods.  Applied Behavior Analysis relies heavily on the assessment of the data that is collected from each lesson, but as long as the proper data is recorded and the proper points are stressed and worked on, ABA is designed to help your child function as normally as possible.

Collecting Data With Web Scrapers

There is a large amount of data available only through websites. However, as many people have found out, trying to copy data into a usable database or spreadsheet directly out of a website can be a tiring process. Data entry from internet sources can quickly become cost prohibitive as the required hours add up. Clearly, an automated method for collating information from HTML-based sites can offer huge management cost savings.

Web scrapers are programs that are able to aggregate information from the internet. They are capable of navigating the web, assessing the contents of a site, and then pulling data points and placing them into a structured, working database or spreadsheet. Many companies and services will use programs to web scrape, such as comparing prices, performing online research, or tracking changes to online content.

Data Collection Tools

Let's take a look at how web scrapers can aid data collection and management for a variety of purposes.

Improving On Manual Entry Methods

Using a computer's copy and paste function or simply typing text from a site is extremely inefficient and costly. Web scrapers are able to navigate through a series of websites, make decisions on what is important data, and then copy the info into a structured database, spreadsheet, or other program. Software packages include the ability to record macros by having a user perform a routine once and then have the computer remember and automate those actions. Every user can effectively act as their own programmer to expand the capabilities to process websites. These applications can also interface with databases in order to automatically manage information as it is pulled from a website.

Aggregating Information

There are a number of instances where material stored in websites can be manipulated and stored. For example, a clothing company that is looking to bring their line of apparel to retailers can go online for the contact information of retailers in their area and then present that information to sales personnel to generate leads. Many businesses can perform market research on prices and product availability by analyzing online catalogues.

Data Management

Managing figures and numbers is best done through spreadsheets and databases; however, information on a website formatted with HTML is not readily accessible for such purposes. While websites are excellent for displaying facts and figures, they fall short when they need to be analyzed, sorted, or otherwise manipulated. Ultimately, web scrapers are able to take the output that is intended for display to a person and change it to numbers that can be used by a computer. Furthermore, by automating this process with software applications and macros, entry costs are severely reduced.

This type of data management is also effective at merging different information sources. If a company were to purchase research or statistical information, it could be scraped in order to format the information into a database. This is also highly effective at taking a legacy system's contents and incorporating them into today's systems.

Overall, a web scraper is a cost effective user tool for data manipulation and management.

How Does In-House eDiscovery Help?

eDiscovery is a process executed to help legal teams and departments sort, cull and retrieve relevant electronic data as proof for litigation. The results can tremendous, and now there is an overwhelming increase in the demand for eDiscovery solutions. The complexity of the process can cause many corporations to seek help from outside sources, but those same corporations are gradually awakening to the fact that outsourcing is often an expensive endeavor.

Organizations are now taking the initiative to implement in-house eDiscovery solutions in order to cut down on those heavy expenses. In doing so, it is essential that companies first evaluate the nature of their eDiscovery process and which segment should be in-sourced to generate favorable ROI. There are also other factors that govern the decision for implementation of in-sourced electronic discovery solutions:

Data Collection Tools

Transparency - In-house eDiscovery solutions facilitate cost visibility for the duration of the eDiscovery process, and also assess its effects on the entire management.

Control - Managing the data, people and tools in-house gives better insight into eDiscovery search performance and also minimizes the risk involved in trusting outsiders with internal investigations.

Greater efficiency - You can build your data and processes, thus reducing your costs over a span of time. With every case you will gain experience and become proficient in collecting, processing, analyzing and reviewing documents. There is no need to hire new people or install new software for each new case.

When any organization decides to implement an in-house eDiscovery solution, they should follow these tips:

1.An eDiscovery solution should have the capacity to perform all the processes defined by the EDRM standard. It should be adept in information management, identification, preservation and collection, processing and early case assessment, providing concise data to the legal team for review. If the eDiscovery solution fails to serve its overall purpose, it only adds to your woes.

2.Companies who plan to use in-house eDiscovery should insist on using an open integration platform that supports various email systems, storage and archiving systems, content and document management systems. When the data is migrated from one server to another, the system should be able to read from both servers. The eDiscovery tool's versatility is the key to an effective eDiscovery process. It should read data from desktops, laptops, shared file servers, PCs, content management systems and storage systems as well.

3.The performance of in-house eDiscovery tools should not waver in the absence of employees, and should have a flexible schedule that can be processed with no disturbance to normal functions.

4.The tools should be compatible with corporate records and management policies such as data back-up, migration, etc., to avoid any accidental data deletion.

5.The eDiscovery solution that you implement should be able to identify stored information with relevance to content type, access time, system location and size, and create a complete profile of that data so you are aware of the liabilities and can respond quickly to legal requests.

6.The solutions provided should not alter the existing data while moving or copying it. It is essential to maintain data in its original form.

7.All relevant information should be available when required for any legal or auditing purpose before the collection process is completed. This means that during the process of collection and preservation, the solution should be capable of providing data that has been saved and indexed.

8.Any processing action should not change the original content. Attaching digital signatures validates the authenticity of the content before and after the collection process.

9.Searching for items, terms and language in files, emails and attachments accurately is what makes eDiscovery solutions worth the investment. Performing critical search operations with complicated language helps reduce the cost and time of the companies.

10.Invest in a solution that is easy to use and maintain.

Many organizations are beginning to understand the value of in-house eDiscovery for internal investigations. The costs that can be saved, the reduction of time lost when responding to legal requests, the better handling of internal data storage and management are some of the advantages that are prompting organizations to adopt this new approach.

Basic Concepts for a Data Warehouse

The concept of a data warehouse is a central database, they
is used to gather information from different parts of the business process. The definition of a data warehouse is the collection of data and how companies and individuals who are used to determine support. Data warehousing is the method used by companies, where they can create and maintain information for a wide view of business data.

Data Warehouses became a distinct type of computerDatabase during the late 1980's and early 1990. Data warehouse development, because the requirements are not satisfied with current operating systems. Ultimately, the need to create separate databases have been developed to support decision making based or government departments. With this demand, the development of operating systems and information has been produced.

Data Collection Tools

The need for enterprise-wide view of the data set in the operating systems. Data warehouses aredesigned to help companies manage and analyze data, and this helps fill the need for technical concepts. Integration is closely with career guidance. Data warehouses must put data from different sources in a consistent format. We must solve problems as naming conflicts and inconsistencies among units. If this concept is achieved, the data warehouse will be built.

The shape of the data stored has nothing to do with whetherone thing is a data warehouse. A data warehouse can be normalized or de-normalized. There may be a relational database, multidimensional database, flat file, hierarchical database, object database, etc. Data warehouse data will be changed often. Data warehouses are often be directed toward a specific action or legal person.

Data warehousing success can not be guaranteed for each project. The techniques involved can be very complicated and erroneous data can also lead to mistakes and failures. When management support is strong, resources committed for business values, and an enterprise vision is established, the end results may turn out to be more helpful for the organization or business. The main factors that create needs for data warehousing for most businesses today are requirements for the companywide view of quality information and departments separating informational from operational systems for improved performance for managing data.

Internet Systems Consortium's SIE & Google Protobufs

Internet Systems Consortium's SIE & Google Protobufs Tube. Duration : 49.95 Mins.

Google Tech Talk December 3, 2009 ABSTRACT Presented by Robert Edmonds, Eric Ziegast, and Paul Vixie. ISC SIE (Security Information Exchange) is a trusted, private framework for information sharing in the Internet Security field. Participants can operate real time sensors that upload and/or inject live data to SIE, and other participants can subscribe to this data either in real time, or by query access, or by limited and anonymized download. While SIE began in 2007 with a method for collecting and sharing raw packet captures for Passive DNS in near real time, correlation with other data types and data sources was required. SIE needed a way to efficiently pass structured data between participating nodes in the loosely-coupled broadcast ethernet message bus. We would like to present why SIE selected Google Protocol Buffers, how we utilize the technology within SIE, and how security researchers can use the libraries (libnmsg), APIs and tools for real-time analysis of disparate data sources.

Some Lean Six Sigma Tools - Define and Measure

The cost jumps, speed and quality of Lean Six Sigma
through the use of appropriate tools. After the DMAIC
Model improvement of Lean Six Sigma, we will see a series of
Tools for each phase.

Definition Phase

Data Collection Tools

Define the purpose:
This implementation phase identified Lean Six Sigma
Improvement and customer deliverables, setting a
Measure. At the end of the definition phase, we should have aProject
Paper, are clearly identified, a project team,
Assessment of business impacts, an assessment of the client
Requires a high level process map and management of the project and
Communication plans.

Tools for defining:

Stakeholder analysis:

The various stakeholders (customers, shareholders, employees)
recorded and the potential impact of the improvement project for each key, medium, low or zero rated.

SIPOCChart:

Among the tools in this phase of the project to improve the application,
Perhaps the most widely used is the diagram SIPOC. SIPOC is
for suppliers, inputs, processes, outputs and customers. The diagram
provides a visual response to the questions to understand
Process: Who are the main actors in this process? What
Create value? Who is the owner of the job? What are the
Inputs and who provides them? What resources are consumed bythe
process? What process steps create the value?

The steps involved in creating the SIPOC diagram and the
involvement of team members in brain storming and idea generating
sessions are as important as the resulting diagram.

VOC - Voice of the Customer:

Critical to a proper definition of the improvement project is the
availability of data representing customer viewpoints and
requirements. These are collected using VOC tools like interviews,
surveys, focus groups, comment cards, suggestion/complaint boxes
etc. The definition of customer here includes internal and external
customers.

Using Kano analysis coverts raw quantitative and qualitative data
obtained from the above into clearer expressions of the value
customers place on various product and service features you offer.

Development of critical-to-quality requirements converts customer
statements, which may be imprecise, to precise requirements (valued
from the customer's perspective) for your product or service.

The Measure Phase

Purpose of Measure:

This phase quantifies the current state of the process with respect
to cost, speed and quality and provides an idea of the gaps to be
filled. At the end of this phase, we have a detailed map of the
process, data on key input and output variables, an analysis of the
capability of the process, refined project charter and plans where
warranted by new information, and recommended actions to pick low
hanging fruits.

Tools for Measure:

Operational definition - various measures are defined so that all
team members apply the same definitions when gathering data for the
improvement project.

Process map, value stream map, complexity value stream map:
This produces a more detailed representation of the process than
the SIPOC diagram and includes such information as wait times,
processing times, resource
consumptions, process operator etc.

Cause Effect Matrix:

This tabulates causes against effects and calculates scores which
are used to rank the causes. As a measure
tool, this matrix is used to select which inputs to focus on
because of their significant impact on the process outputs.

Preliminary FMEA (failure modes and effects analysis):
This tool has a similar function to the cause and effect matrix.
All possible failures in the inputs are considered, and then
weighted according
to probability of occurrence, severity of impact on outputs and
difficulty of detection. This assessment also helps to determine
what inputs the project team should focus on.

Data collection plan:

This includes decisions as to what data (balanced between input and
output) to collect, identification of
stratification factors (these help determine patterns in the data),
determination of sample size, identification of data sources,
development of data collection sheets and assignment of data
collection duties among team members.

Pareto charts:

This is one more tool for focusing the team's efforts on the most
important problems. A Pareto chart is a bar
chart where the horizontal axis represents categories. On the
vertical axis we can plot in descending order, the frequency of
occurrence, or cost, speed or quality impact of each category.
Where a clear Pareto effect exists, only a few of the categories
(typically 20% or less) are responsible for majority of the effects
(80% or more).

Measurement systems analysis:

The process of obtaining measurements is subjected to standard analyses to ensure reliability, repeatability and reproducibility. Other attributes of
the measurement system are stability, bias and discrimination.

Control charts:

A control chart is a run chart sequence of quantitative data with
three horizontal lines showing a centred mean and upper and lower
control limits. Control charts help to assess the nature of
variation of the process. In-control processes are expected to
yield data points randomly distributed around the mean but within
the calculated control limits.

Process capability assessment:

This tool measures of process capability assess the ability of a
process to meet functional requirements.
Several measures of capability exist. All of them are compare the
process standard deviation to the allowable range of variation as
specified by the customer.

Estate Planning - Find a home for your collection - Charitiable donations, trusts

This is a transcript of a conference of Certified Expert Brian Kathen manuscript, May 23, 2003, the Library of Congress, Manuscript Annual Meeting of the Society delivered.

Moderator --- Steve Carson Chris Coover, Christie's auction house
and Dr. James Hutson, Library of Congress Director

Data Collection Tools

Presenter:

Brian Kather, ISA CAPP

Managing Partner

National Review Consultants

Hope, NJ

It 'an honor to speak here in this wonderfulInstitution and from my friends and colleagues of the Society manuscript.

Thank you for me to be part of the program.

"Finding a home for your collection." --- A set interesting.

Depending on the strength of "home" for your collection into account, may be an experienced professional services beneficial or even necessary.

By the end of my brief presentation, you have a better idea:

• As an expert can help you get yourHome Collection

• If you may need a surveyor

• How to choose a legal expert.

And interestingly enough, you'll probably know more about the assessment of what people who call themselves experts.

Now, before you even consider retaining the services of an expert, you need to know an important fact.

Anyone can be called an expert. There are no laws or licensing requirements in each state of the United States in terms ofpersonal property appraisers. That may seem odd, especially with the craze antiques road show, but it's true. It seems that anyone who has ever bought or sold an antique or a manuscript, a referee.

There are dozens of recent events and court proceedings, by persons who are not qualified and their customers in big trouble, as the reviewer.
You've probably heard some of them read news manuscripts. We have a great job of supporting litigationComplaints of assessment, if so, what our research shows, be amazed.

So, to begin with, we treat what is an assessment and what is not.

An assessment is a formal written document created by a qualified expert. The report provides an impartial opinion of value along with supporting documentation for this final value.

Every vote has one purpose and one purpose. The poles are the reason the assessment is conducted. Perhaps the demand for insuranceCoverage, the charitable contribution, equitable distribution, estate planning or for sale.

The purpose is the value, provided that: the replacement value of retail market value, liquidation value. We'll talk more about values later.

Now, before taking into account an assessment, consider your needs.

• What do you do with your collection? Sell, hold, or gift? give them?

° would know their value to help you in your decision?

• The personotherwise, it is necessary to know the value of the collection? Family - sales, IRS tax deduction?

We are looking for some "home" for your collection.

If you want to sell your collection (I guess that means the new home will be someone else's home from your collection). You have several options.

You can sell to a dealer. In this case, you do not need an assessment, because the dealer will tell you what he or she is willing to pay. (Well, unless you are sure it is a fair offer, the assessment couldHelp), but if you choose a reputable dealer, you will get a fair deal.

You can deliver the auction. Also you do not need a review. The representative of auction will be appreciated with a pre-auction offer and related expenses, as part of the service.

People ask us all the time and tell us they want to sell his collection at auction and need an opinion. As far as we want to relieve them of their money and not assessment, for example, if that's what they want, they aredo not need a review. The auction will be rep with all the information they need.

The same story - you can switch to an agent for the sale. The agent provides the agreed sales price and the costs associated with the transaction.

Of course, you must have a high degree of confidence in the dealers, agents and representatives of auction, as well as their knowledge of the market.

You can get to store a number of auction houses, dealers and agents, the best offer before the auctionEstimation and terms.

If you do not have the time or the desire to preserve your collection, an expert can provide the data needed to better understand the markets and the best practices for sale.

If you are planning to sell your collection, I think there are specific advantages of each method: Dealer, auction or agents. But that is beyond the scope of the program today.

Another "home" for your collection can be a gift for your family or friends. Make a gift all or part of theTheir collection. You can only spread the collection of different parts or give it to someone. Make a gift to the library once or over a specified period. Each of these decisions require an assessment to a fair distribution of goods. You may need to remain below the estimated maximum value of non-taxable gift.

His collection, a house in multiple family trusts, which can lessen the tax burden on your estate planningSituations. An evaluation is almost always necessary in this scenario.

You can also donate your collection. (I bet that Dr. Hutson was when he was asked when I wanted to "home". Name) Again, as with a gift, you can donate all or part of the collection. It can provide tax benefits for an entire collection in one transaction or charitable contributions for a certain period of his.

In donations, is almost always required for an assessmentmarket the fair value of potential tax deductions.

I mentioned earlier, the assessment regarding the purpose and intended use. In a donation that is the purpose of the evaluation report fair market value. FMV is a legal definition of the rules and procedures of the Treasury revenue derived: the price at which the goods would be hands between a buyer and a willing seller willing to change, either to buy or sell for strength, and both have the necessary time and reasonableKnowledge of relevant facts.

Evaluators are the most common market and then the value of research.

I do not see their own experts to determine the value - Information Appraisers value. The market determines the value. Reviewers of research of the relevant market, then their opinion of value in a register qualified reports for their customers. Most of the conclusions of the experts value are reported as the value requirements for legal reasons.

Support their opinions with documentedThe research, which is included in the report.

Professional assessment company to dictate the uniform standards for professional practice review, and the IRS does not, the information in an evaluation report is required.

Usually contain the first 9 to 12 pages giving information on the evaluation report, market research, methodology, and selected markets, the experts of the necessary qualifications. The balance of the report is a detailed description ofThe items are donated and the conclusions of value.

These relationships are very complex and always include detailed photos, which is required by the IRS. An IRS Form 8283 is signed and completed by the expert from the donor.

Sometimes our company, consultants, National Review will be retained to provide preliminary research to help determine the donor, including the collection will be donated.

All in all, the donor working with the institution, auditors andusually a tax professional to ensure the donation is a win / win for everyone.

If your collection needs protection until you find a new home, can help assess insurance. As you know, the manuscripts are generally not included in standard homeowners insurance policy. Will take place for most insurance plans and as art.

Insurance assessment correctly identifies the collection and is a retail replacement value. The reportforms the basis for reporting. Insurance coverage can be for transportation, storage, and to extend a loan from the collection should be his new home from your home.

So, there are several common applications for the skill. Actually there are others, but I think these are the most commonly used and refer to the current theme.

Well, if you choose, you should consult an expert, I have some thoughts.

1 Assessment is not art. This is a science. There are formal,Testing and certification is available through a variety of organizations. Anyone who casts an expert should be trained, tested and certified by a professional assessment of personal property of the three organizations. Personal property refers to anything that is not property.

And 'AAA - Surveyors Association of America, in New York
The ASA - American Society of Surveyors, DC, the National Association NAJA jewelry expert based inNew York, and ISA - International Society of experts, based in Seattle. The ISA is the largest professional association of personal property experts. I am a certified member of the ISA with a specialist certified autographs, manuscripts and historical documents, and the president of the Ethics Commission review the ISA.

Verification of qualifications of all potential reviewers. And search experts who have the highest level of certification and training.Let nobody tell you, there is no place to learn to be an expert certification

2 Do not use an expert who has an interest in your collection. Professional experts are objective and do not offer what they consider to purchase and not judge them, what they intend to buy. One can not be worn two hats in this area and in need. Think of the cards Pickett.

3 Accept no fee assessment, as a percentage of the value of the basic elementsexamined. It is unethical for an expert referred to the fees based on a percentage of the value. Experts must always remain impartial.

4 If you are a charitable donation, some elements will have a connection to use. The IRS allows tax deductions for items that are unrelated to deprecated purpose of the institute. Donating a cow, the American Gemological Society is likely to use them independently.

A quick assessment of story:

We talked to an expertSignaling value certain value. Now one of our gems and jewelry appraiser was received as an expert in court in California with stealing jewelry. (History)

Fill-in: Pre-Columbian art history: three approaches: comparable sales, profits, costs of reproduction. Use of lunar rock and value date. TKTS Indy 500

Now you know a little 'more about how a relationship can help the best home for your collection.

If I can not ever be usefulto contact us.

Thanks!
